Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas is a thrilling fantasy novel starring a strong and awesome female protagonist by the name of Celaena Sardothien. Celaena has been serving out a year sentence in the horrific Endovier Salt mines but when Prince Dorian offers her her freedom with the condition that she must compete as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin, she is quick to accept the offer. Celaena is a brave heroine who will make you want to take up your own martial arts courses. This book is full of drama and intrigue, set in a medieval world full of magic.

This is a great read for anyone who liked Graceling (by Kristin Cashore) and anyone interested in medieval settings. The whole Throne of Glass series is amazing and you will not regret your decision in picking this book up. This book definitely deserves four stars!

After serving a 1 year sentence in Endovier, the salt mines, for her crimes, Celaena Sardothien, the most wanted assassin,  is ready to fight back. Selected by the Prince, Celaena is to fight men-thieves, assassins and warriors from across the empire to gain the title as the Kings Champion, working as an assassin for the empire she hates and to serve him for four years. Things become interesting when the Prince starts to show interest in her, but it’s the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best. As she fights for her life, other contestants begin to turn up dead. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim?

Maas manages to flawlessly blend heartbreaking drama, which allows you to see right to the heart of the characters and connect with them, with laugh out loud humour at the easy banter between the characters. This book is exhilarating, heart wrenching and just amazing. A strong female lead, a fantasy world and a deep gripping storyline full of betrayal, love, a dash of humour and nail biting action. This book left me wanting more, so thankfully it’s a six-book series. I recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy, action and romance.

4.5 out of 5 stars.
